Italian Regency Marble & Hardwood Base Chess Table with Chess Set

We are delighted to offer for sale this absolutely exquisite antique pietra dura marble chess table and set in mahogany. This is the most exceptional chess table we have ever seen. Italian Pietra Dura marble is the equivalent to marquetry inlay but with marble. It is beautifully crafted and will give a sense of regality, seriousness and importance in any setting. The base is original Regency, a miniature version of a well known turned-pedestal base for a dining table. We think it was a rare exhibition sample used to show the quality of craftsman work at antique fairs - They made smaller pieces as they were easier to transport, making this piece very rare and highly collectable. Finally, we have an original staunton boxwood chess set - if you know anything about chess then we won’t need to say anything more! In terms of the condition, the chess set has various chips due to genuine age and honest use, and the table itself is in very good order for the period.
